The Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute (ZAG) is a public, non-profit, state-owned body, with main activities on fundamental and applied research, development of new methods of testing and measurement, certification and attestation of conformity of products, training of research and technical staff, participation in the preparation of technical codes and standards. ZAG comprises 14 laboratories and sections in 5 Departments (Materials, Building Physics, Construction, Road Infrastructure, Metrology), with advanced laboratory infrastructures working on: synthesis of new materials, secondary raw materials from industrial waste, degradation processes like corrosion of metals and degradation processes, energy efficiency and LCA analysis, earthquake engineering, and development, maintenance and testing of the road infrastructure.

In EXTREME it is involved in mechanical, chemical, corrosion and tribocorrosion characterization of materials, general characterization and testing of materials, recycling technologies and LCA analyses.
